Talk:Ibogaine

The dosage recommendation is too much by far.

From TiHKAL:

"As was pointed out in a pharmacological review (see Popik et al.), as the hallucinogenic dose appears to be several times higher than the stimulant dose, the user must endure intense and unpleasant central stimulation in order to experience the hallucinogenic effects."

and

"There is no question but that ibogaine is a rough trip, physically as well as mentally. Here is one report that shows the body aspects of its use."

The stimulating effects start at doeses at low as 1-2 mg/Kg. Responses are quite individual. There are fatal cases reported already at 5mg/Kg. Usually, the hallucinogenic dose is around 10 mg/Kg but this is by no means a medium dosage.

Usually, the sense of balance is strongly disturbed, the heart may beat irregularly (arhythmias, in the sense of a large heart rate variability). Anything besides lying down in bed during the first hours of the experience is probably a bad idea.

What should be noted definitely is the dosing for iboga tabernanthe root bark, which is the most readily available source of ibogaine. Good material contains up to 10% of iboga alkaloids, i.e. 1g of t. iboga root bark contains 50-100mg iboga alkaloids.
