The goal with the article is to guide how to make a solution that can be stored for many years.

Materials

  • Personal protective equipment:
    • Face mask.
    • Protective glasses.
    • Disposable gloves.
  • Isopropyl alcohol (IPA), preferably minimum 99.9% to avoid impurities that potentially will contaminate the column and reduce the lifetime. Rectified spirit can be used, but it is often easier to find IPA in most countries.
  • Two sealed containers.
  • 1 mL pipette.
  • 1 mL amber vials. Filled vials prevent oxidation from dead space that will form in a larger container when it starts to be used.
  • Sugar cubes.

Avoid water as preservative

  • Salts:
    • Avoid tap water
      • Contains chloride. It can be evaporated by boiling it for 20 minutes. However, other chlorine compounds are not convenient to degrade by boiling:
      • Monochloramine is sometimes used in water treatment. It's a very stable compound, and there are no guarantees that it will break down through boiling.
  • Oxygen
    • "Solid vitamin C is relatively stable, but it decomposes rather quickly when dissolved in water."[1] There's no evidence that even distilled water won't oxidize substances gradually.

Procedures

Put on your protective gear.

Follow the IPA solution section to make a solution. The other sections are teaching how you can prepare blotters from the solution, and even how you can convert the blotters back to an IPA solution.

IPA solution

  • Add 1 g IPA per common dose of the substance, for example 100 mcg LSD. Stir the IPA until the substance has dissolved in it fully.
  • Fill the amber vials.

IPA solution to blotter

Buy a preformed blotter ark

  • Pour the IPA solution in the flat glass container.
  • Submerge the perforated blotter ark in the IPA solution.
  • Wait for 60 seconds for the perforated blotter ark to become fully wet.
  • With a spoon, gently squeeze all parts of the perforated blotter ark against the glass systematically, begin from top left to right, row by row of the perforation, to eliminated air pockets. This ensures that each paper blotter will absorb the solution equally much, which is especially important when most of the solution has evaporated.

Blotter to IPA solution

  • For blotters:
    • Weight up the blotters.
    • To get out 90%:
      • Weight 0.5 g IPA per common dose of the substance, for example 100 mcg LSD.
      • Mix the blotters and the IPA in container A.
      • Move the blotters to Container B, close container A.
    • To get out the remaining 10%:
      • Weight 0.5 g IPA per common dose of the substance, for example 100 mcg LSD.
      • Mix the blotters and the IPA in container B. 1 g IPA solution should now contain a common dose of the substance of your choice.
  • Transfer the solution from container A to container B. Seal container A and shake it.
  • Fill the amber vials.

Labeling

To avoid overdoses, label the amber vials with the substance, and the strength.

Storage

Store the IPA solution in:

  • Amber bottles or covered in foil
  • Store it in a freezer, it will stay in its liquid state, and it will make it much more difficult for the IPA to evaporate from the container.

Usage

It is safe to consume a few milliliters IPA. However, it tastes unpleasant and can be avoided by evaporating it. Here's a convenient way to quickly do that:

  • Drop 1 mL IPA per sugar cube.
  • Let the IPA evaporate from the sugar cube(s) for 1 hour.
  • Consume the sugar cube(s).
